A Must Have

I bought this to get me started on my new instrument. I play guitar but am troubled by the weight. Still wanting to play music, I opted for the clarinet. This book and its dvd/cd helps make the process of learning easy and fun. The lessons are paced well and new notes are introduced progressively and sequentially. A great starter book for amatuers or beginners that can be used to get anyone well on their way. I recommend it fully.

Ah, Essential Elements 2000. Along with Accent on Achievement, B flat Clarinet Book 1, it's one of the great starter books to help you learn any instrument. I though the book was excellent as-is, but about halfway through I popped the included DVD into my computer, and found a myriad of useful (if a bit outdated) software. It comes with one called "SmartMusic EE Band" that includes computerized (yet printable) sheet music for almost any instrument, an electronic tuner that lets you know how close to the notes you're actually playing, computerized accompaniment software (that speeds up and slows according to you!), and clickable notes (you can click on them and see the fingering(s) available)! A great product gets a high-tech "sister book," so-to-speak, and makes learning the clarinet even more insightful.

Health Principles Really Are A Part of True Bible Religion

This book is a useful tool to the maintaince of the human body as God designed it. No one would put water into a gas tank of a car; neither should one put low grade or distructive fuel into their body. Dr. Cherry confirms many of the reports that are published by numerous scientists that warns people of the effects of bad eating habits, i.e, obesity, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, cancer, etc... The Bible reveals or informs one on how to eat and how to properly care for the human body. I have implemented the techniques suggested in The Bible Cure and the results were astounding! I feel better and I look good. I have more energy, is less proned to become stressed and my mental alertness has improved. I suggest that all humans read this book. Especially if you are a Christian. Unfortunately many Christians are ignorant to God's food laws and think that it is ok to eat anything that crawls across their plates as long as they pray over it. God gave health rules because He knows what is best for the human body. Dr. Cherry did a great job combining his natural talents as a medical doctor and his knowledge of Bibical based health. Everything you want in one book!

Some good info, but not much detail

This book discusses spiritual healing through prayer, diet, supplements, traditional and alternative treatments for a variety of health conditions, and includes a few recipes in the back. However, there is not a lot of detail on any one of these issues as the book is only 152 pages.
My first impression of this book is that Cherry's interpretation of some Bible verses is rather suspect. For instance, he claims that the healing recorded in John chapter nine is a case of Jesus using medicinal and spiritual means to heal. But in no means can spit and dirt be considered to be a medicinal cure for congenital blindness! OTOH, most of the supposed spiritual healings Cherry reports could be attributed solely to psychological factors or the medical treatments that accompanied the prayer.
In regards to diet, Cherry believes the Bible teaches a Mediterranean style of eating. And he is probably correct for the most part. But I did scratch my head when he states throughout the book to limit red meat to three or four times per month but then in a chart on page 118 says to eat lean meat 1-2 times weekly. Most people would probably find the former to be rather restrictive.
He promotes a mostly plant based diet but takes a swipe at a full vegetarian diet at the beginning of the book. But his quick dismissal of vegetarianism doesn't do justice to those who have thrived on such a diet. I go into much greater detail on the pros and cons of a vegetarian diet in my book "Creationist Diet: Nutrition and God-given Foods According to the Bible." I also give a lot more details on diet related subjects that Cherry just glosses over.
In regards to supplements, Cherry recommends rather high doses of vitamins and minerals, especially the antioxidant nutrients. He seems to assume the evidence for their benefit is clear-cut. But as I detail in my book, the evidence is actually contradictory.
As for the discussion on the different healings using prayer and medical means, I did find one story to be instructive. A lady with ovarian cancer believed she was "led" by God to first use chemotherapy, but then she felt led to stop after just three treatments and then to depend solely on natural alternative treatments.
And it worked. The three chemotherapy treatments eliminated most of the cancer leaving it more manageable for the natural means. And by stopping after three treatments she didn't experience any of the common side effects of chemotherapy. If the unthinkable happens and I ever come down with cancer, this pattern of treatment will merit serious consideration.
As for the recipes, they are rather basic and seem to be a waste of space in such a small book.
Overall, this book does provide a good introduction to each of the main issues covered. But it is just that, an introduction. For details, one would have to turn to separate books devoted to each subject.

About the Author

Nataliya V. Ivankova (Ph.D., University of Nebraska-Lincoln; M.P.H., University of Alabama at Birmingham) holds a dual appointment as Associate Professor in the Department of Health Services Administration (School of Health Professions) and the Department of Acute, Chronic and Continuing Care (School of Nursing) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She teaches graduate research methods courses, including a two-semester sequence in mixed methods research, mixed methods applications in community-based action research, and advanced courses in qualitative research design. Her expertise is in qualitative inquiry and mixed methods research and their applications across disciplines. Her long-standing interest is in the use of mixed methods in community-based participatory action research, implementation science and translational research, which resulted in the book Mixed Methods Applications in Action Research: From Methods to Community Action (2015, Sage Publications).

In addition to teaching, Nataliya mentors doctoral students in their dissertation research, and post-doctoral fellows and junior faculty in their qualitative and mixed methods funded research projects. She serves as consultant, co-investigator, and methodologist on externally and internally funded projects in education, health care, nursing, and health behavior. She is a founding Co-editor of SAGE’s Mixed Methods Research Series and serves as Associate Editor for the Journal of Mixed Methods Research and Qualitative Research Editor for the American Journal of Health Behavior.  For several years, she chaired Special Interest Group Mixed Methods Research within American Educational Research Association. Currently she is actively involved with Mixed Methods International Research Association as Chair of Communication & Marketing Committee. Prior to coming to UAB, Nataliya was Research Projects Coordinator in the Office of Qualitative and Mixed Methods Research at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. During the first eighteen years of her professional career she served as a member of the faculty and also as Dean for Admissions at the Izmail State University in Ukraine.

Interesting read!

I read this for a class on Modern Egyptian History, but as a work of historical fiction I'd recommend it anyhow. This book provides a feminist perspective of life in Egypt in the 1950s. Although the book seems to criticize romance novels, it seems to me that the book fell into many of the same problems (although this is not a shallow romance novel). Everyone is trapped in these political marriages and desires to break free to be with their true love.

In my class, we compared society as described in this book to society in the early 20th century, as described in al-Hakim's Return of the Spirit. It is interesting to use the two books to see how much society has changed (and to see how, in some ways, Egypt today is more similar to Egypt at the start of the 20th century than in the mid-20th century).

Very good book, well written and well translated. I'd recommend it for anybody that is interested in learning about the Egyptian culture and an Egyptian woman's internal struggle with freedom. Times may have changed in Egypt, but many of the thoughts and realities within this book remain the same to date.

About the Author

Thomas F. Banchoff is a geometer and a professor at Brown University. Dr. Banchoff was president of the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) from 1999 to 2000. He has published numerous papers in a variety of journals and has been the recipient of many honors, including the MAA’s Deborah and Franklin Tepper Haimo Award and Brown’s Teaching with Technology Award. He is the author of several books, including Linear Algebra Through Geometry with John Wermer and Beyond the Third Dimension.

Stephen T. Lovett is an associate professor of mathematics at Wheaton College. Dr. Lovett has taught introductory courses on differential geometry for many years, including at Eastern Nazarene College. He has given many talks over the past several years on differential and algebraic geometry as well as cryptography. In 2015, he was awarded Wheaton’s Senior Scholarship Faculty Award. He is the author of Abstract Algebra: Structures and Applications and Differential Geometry of Manifolds.

This book is excellent readability. In addition, the book will have a description of the three-dimensional curves and surfaces other than manifolds instill a greater confidence in differential geometry to the reader.

About the Author
Dr. Eve-Marie Arce has been active throughout her career in statewide professional organizations that advocate for children. She has served as a member at large, secretary, and President (for two years) of the CAEYC. She has also been a California delegate for the NAEYC Affiliate Council. In 2005 she retired as a faculty member at Shasta College, having taught early childhood education and child psychology courses for twenty years. During that time she was active with the California Community College Early Childhood Educators and chaired the Chancellor's Advisory on Child Development and Instruction.

This book is so banal that it reeks of the authors need to"just get a book out"

There are so many other superior books in this genre.

I would have given it 1.2 a star had it been possible but it wasnt even a good paperweight.
