Comprehensible architecture

I have always found the musings of architects somewhat arcane, as is not surprising given that they are writing at the borderline of art, technology and economics. This book addresses a practical problem - how to generate dense but affordable housing which does not resemble battery cages for chickens. The book reviews solutions from cities across the globe and distills a set of ideas which have worked (and in many cases have worked for centuries).
If we are to improve urban housing as world population peaks while rural populations decline it would seem that the lessons learned should have wide applicability. Recommendations for adequate room size and flexibility, high tech green design and prefabrication seem unsurprising. Less obvious is the possibility of high density without high rise. The idea of a graded process from highway to local roads to lanes, and from shared space to private space can improve livability and support community. Finally, the idea of value as value per dollar rather than quick return on investment is clearly a way to move the reputation of developers from profiteers to social benefactors.
I hope this book is widely read and that it effects city planners and local government as well as architects.

Wow! Realistic Erotic Fiction with a subtle sense of humor

This is the second book I've read by this author, and again she has completely nailed the subtleties of realistic erotic fiction.
There is an element of tongue in cheek humor that I've never seen so well written in erotica before.

I guarantee this book will turn you on, and probably make you smile too - how rare is that?

Definitely worth the price, I hope she writes more in this style - very original!

Overdeveloped stepsons and entertainment centers

A stepmother must deal with a young man's rather convenient medical "problem". Gotta tread carefully with the description here, but let's just say the kid has physical dimensions approximating a horse, and perhaps gobbles a bottle of vitamin E per day with a dozen oysters, washing that down with Spanish Fly. Ms. Tirrell doesn't waste time with extraneous details ... though perhaps the real problem is that her (not really) ingenuous stepmother cleans the house in short skirts and high heels and admits in the narration that her bosom is "not designed for housework". The young man's natural "reaction" frightens the lady; she takes him to the doctor. Diagnosis: he's "overdeveloped". Somehow, a solution is found. Meanwhile, I enjoyed the complaint about the absent husband's "god-awful, giant entertainment center taking up half the room". I share Ms. Tirrell's contempt for overpriced and unnecessary electronics encased in pasteboard furniture.

Nice story about a mother's love for her over developed son who needs (under doctor's orders) to be relieved. This theme is not new, so I give it four stars. Tina's writing is excellent however and I look forward to more of her work.

Hot, sweet romance with older man/younger woman

I really enjoyed this romance. My friend has been after me to read it because she knows I love an older man hero, and this one was so sexy and fine. Levi is 40, tall and handsome, controlled and dominating. Add in the icy green eyes and the dark hair with some salt and pepper, and I thought he was too good. And while I was way into him, I was just as into Daisy. And I'm usually all about the hero, but Daisy was my type of girl. I guess because I could personally identify with her type of submission.

I really think LD understands that submissive doesn't mean doormat. A woman can be strong and independent while at the same time giving and submissive. I just loved Daisy. I loved her look, too. She's 24, dark hair and eyes, rocking a sweet curvy body and a retro look. I love those pinup type of heroines. And Daisy wanted to look after her man. There are some women like that, who want to do for her man, look after him, and I liked that about Daisy. And when she thought she wasn't getting the same sort of respect or attention reciprocated, she let Levi know it. She stood up to him and told his azz so. A woman like Daisy is happy to give, but a man must give it back, or she won't have it or him. There's a bit of groveling from Levi.

Daisy's Mexican-American, and Levi comes from a rich, kind of stuffy white family. So there's that, plus the age difference, and Levi's baggage from his previous marriage. But Daisy is lush and gorgeous and vibrant and totally knocks him for a loop. The sex is erotic and so hot. LD writes some good oral sex scenes, all that on your knees and submitting. The bdsm is light, in my opinion, just enough to be kinky and hot. I thought it was all good and hot. I love D/s like this. Totally recommend this if you love older man/younger woman and hot, sweet romance with D/s.

A classic book, but it's time for the updated edition

I got this book as reference material for Environmental PE exam. It's a classic on air pollution and it has helpful supplemental content on the air pollution subject areas discussed in the PE Reference Manual. However, this is an older edition, although the theory is still good, the discussion on industrial waste gas treatment and sampling methods are pretty out-dated. And there were quite a few questions on those in the PE exam. So, an updated edition of the book would have been even better.

When I started reading this book I immediately connected with the tradgedy's and triumphs of Kaia. I couldn't put the book down until I was finished. The fact that the book is titled "BLACK" doesn't really give anyone a clue as to what the book is really about. But the book leaves more to the imagination with a title as simple as that. I am a white woman who grew up with all races, especially black people. I was able to feel the pain for this character. I felt the joys. I also felt and knew the feeling of her being afraid of her mother. This book brought up more emotions than one would imagine. This book made me laugh, it made me angry, it made me happy, and it also made me cry and cry and cry! As a matter of fact I went to work the next day with swollen eyes. I feel that Tracy Brown went to the extreme on her first novel. To be able to make people feel the emotions of the characters in a book is strong and is not an easy task. No matter what race you are this book is a great book to read especially if you are ignorant to the fact of what really happens in other peoples lives. Great job Tracy! And my sincere thanks for the swollen eyes! I cried way after the book was finished! Until your next book.....

Wonderful!

This book was great! I read this book in one day. It will have you happy, angry and sad. Kaia's goes through some real tough times, but with love, loyalty and friendship, she is able to come to grips with all that life has thrown at her. Now this book is not your typical "street life" book, but has the elements. You will find yourself hating certain characters, while loving others. I laughed and cried while reading this book. This is a must read. It was simply wonderful!

Princess Meets Her Prince

Black is a story of Kaia Wesley who faces different adversities in the homefront growing up. With a mother who despises her and a father who adored her, Kaia life became even more complicated when she witnesses her fathers death.

Budding into a beautiful teenager, Kaia meets Aaron who falls head over heels in love with her and she with him. Finally having that sense of security and love that she deserves another hindrance arises that leaves her pregnant and alone to fend for herself. With the help and advice of her friends Kaia comes to stand on her own.

When one of her so-called friends betrays her, she will then find out who her real friends are. As the saying goes "Keep your friends close and enemies closer".

This novel will make you laugh, cry, and angry. Tracey Brown did a great job, minus the few grammatical errors that I came across throughout the book. I recommend Black to everyone, the young and the old, just simply wonderful.

I See The Light!

I see the light! And thanks to the book Green Lighting, by Brian Clark Howard, Seth Leitman, and William Brinsky, it's costing me less and it's easier on Mother Earth than ever before. I'm a huge fan of do-it-yourself projects, but most DIY books devote, at most, a chapter to lighting and barely a word to eco-friendly lighting options. Green Lighting provides easy to follow instructions and contains a mega-wattage of supporting materials and additional resources. Great Read! Helped me convince my wife to make the switch to LED's

I've been wanting to upgrade my house to LED's for the last year or so. However, my wife was not willing to let me spend the money I needed to get the best units. In part of my research, I bought this book about "Green Lighting" and it was just fascinating to read through it. Because of this book, I was able to convince my wife that it would be a wise move and also a great eco-choice. If you're interested in learning about green lighting, I would highly recommend this book. It will tell you everything you need to know.

The Best way to brush up on your pharmacology!!!!!!

I love this book. It breaks down pharmacologic drugs by system (ie. drugs used on the GI system, abx, etc.) and explains them in very simple terms while still being entertaining. This book does not read like a text book. However, at the end of each chapter, there is a little 3-7 question quiz. The only down side about this book is that it does not give the common names of drugs (ie. Colace is referred to as ducosate sodium). This book has really helped me in clinical and my practice NCLEX scores have dramatically improved. This book is a must own for nursing students, new grad nurses, or anyone who needs brushing up on pharmacology.

Readible but wrong

We purchased this book thinking it might be useful for our medical students. It is not. This book has numerous basic errors of pharmacology principles. It is laid out well and communicates things clearly however it is misleading and wrong about important aspects of pharmacology. Believing some of what is written in this book could result in harm if it influenced prescribing decisions.

A book written in this style covering these areas could be very useful if it was correct.

Makes Pharmacology A Lot More Enjoyable.

I love this book. It breaks down pharmacologic drugs by system (ie. drugs used on the GI system, abx, etc.) and explains them in very simple terms while still being entertaining. This book is a must have for all nursing students. Sure does make pharmacology a lot easier to understand.
