Must have!!

I have been trading the forex market for about 4 years. Eur/Gbp in a Nutshell is a great and well thought out book. I have been trading under this strategy for a month and a half. It is now apart of my regular swing trading portfolio. One thing I have learned is the simpler your strategy the higher your probability for success. Eur/Gbp in a Nutshell accomplishs that theory. Case and point, out of my last 5 trades; 1st trade, +5pips(moved to break even to soon. Ended up going another 80 pips), 2nd, +80pips, 3rd, stop out -40, 4th, +5pips (break even), 5th, +125pips(closed this out 6/4/2012)..So, depending on your leverage you are paid over a 1 per pip from this pair. If you want to make some money and learn in the process, this is the book. One thing you should understand. This pair is a slow moving pair. You will need to have patients to play..;)

EURGBP in a Nutshell, a trader's perspective

Whether you're a seasoned fx trader or just starting out, this book is a great addition to whatever you already know or may learn in the future. The author manages to encapsulate a great and effective trading strategy that is easy to follow, logical, and best of all: if you have the discipline to follow the directions-it works. The book does a great job of showing how to reliably select order entry, and exit points using a single indicator.

I have been trading for more years than I care to admit. At one time I held active securities licenses as a registered rep. and registered principle for general securities and options(series 7, 24, and 4). I have been exposed to all manner of trading strategies, analytical techniques, and trading styles. KISS definitely applies as a successful approach to the market. This book captures that beautifully.

It may not be the only book you read about trading. And, it may not be the only approach you take when applying your trading plan. But, it should definitely be part of your bag of tricks. For the price (about 10 pips of a mini contract), it's a steal and will be well worth your time and attention.

Decent for babies

I bought this book for my 6 month old son. It is decent for him but once he gets a bit older it will be too simple. Each page contains one or two word in French with the English also. Wished they had more than just words...maybe a sentence to use the words in context. Not a great learning tool, more of a novelty.

Humorous, but insubstantial

Tilsner's book gave me a few good chuckles, but there's not much substance to it. It left me with the feeling of "Is that all?" Although I'm definitely a member of Tilsner's generation, and can identify with her humor, I was turned off by Tilsner's constant references to her friends and herself. She even plugs a friend's website in the book--a gesture I found somewhat unsavory. If you're looking for something thoughtful and informative, this book isn't it. But, if you're looking for humor and "lite" writing, you'll enjoy it.

Not easy to relate to as a 30 yr old

I was extremely disappointed with this book and the fact that none of the reviews I read seemed to mention that the author is highly un-relatable unless you happened to be a binge drinking, drug taking, promiscuous girl in your 20's. She mentions many times the use of recreational drugs and talks about drinking and sleeping with random friends or acquaintances. She is shocked when she finds out that one of her girlfriends has only slept with two men in her life, "gasp"! This was hardly my experience in my 20's so I wasn't having her same fear of "growing up". I have been responsible most of my life and was more looking for a book with guidance about "where does it go from here"? There were a few funny or poignant moments here and there and it was a quick read so I gave it 2 stars rather than 1, but if you are a married woman on a decent career path at 29, you will not find this book is for you.

half depressing/half enlightening

On the verge of 30, I started to seek out books to help me survive the crisis of it all. Judging from the reviews, this book looked like it would fit the bill. It did somewhat...I say that because, well, it actually almost didn't.
I found the first half of this book to be depressing, reminding me that I wasn't a young doe anymore...ugh! But, the second half helped to redeem the book in my eyes, explaining why 30 was so great. You can't tell that this half and half action will happen by reading the chapter titles, etc., but it does.
Also - keep in mind that this book is categorized as humor/self help, and it is just that, emphasis on humor. If you are looking for a psychology perspective, professional advice or something like that - you won't find that here. The only credentials that the author has are that she once turned 30 herself.
This book is an attempt to make light of it all - but I found it to be quite depressing at times! I think I am now even more scared about turning 30 than I ever was! But Julie Tilsner does help you to realize that you are not the only one who is going through this.

About the Author

Alex Martelli spent 8 years with IBM Research, winning three Outstanding Technical Achievement Awards. He then spent 13 as a Senior Software Consultant at think3 inc, developing libraries, network protocols, GUI engines, event frameworks, and web access frontends. He has also taught programming languages, development methods, and numerical computing at Ferrara University and other venues. He's a C++ MVP for Brainbench, and a member of the Python Software Foundation. He currently works for AB Strakt, a Python-centered software house in Gteborg, Sweden, mostly by telecommuting from his home in Bologna, Italy. Alex's proudest achievement is the articles that appeared in Bridge World (January/February 2000), which were hailed as giant steps towards solving issues that had haunted contract bridge theoreticians for decades.

David Ascher is the lead for Python projects at ActiveState, including Komodo, ActiveState's integrated development environment written mostly in Python. David has taught courses about Python to corporations, in universities, and at conferences. He also organized the Python track at the 1999 and 2000 O'Reilly Open Source Conventions, and was the program chair for the 10th International Python Conference. In addition, he co-wrote Learning Python (both editions) and serves as a director of the Python Software Foundation. David holds a B.S. in physics and a Ph.D. in cognitive science, both from Brown University.

Cookbook every Pythoner should have

This book is based on ActiveState on-line library of python recipes which were selected and edited by two well known experts, industry veteran Alex Martelli and David Ascher, with the help from other Python experts.
Recipes are organized in seventeen chapters. Chapters begin with short introduction on the topic covered, and is well worth the reading alone (even if you're primarily interested on a specific recipe take the time and read the introduction text). Each recipe is comprised of four sections: Problem definition -> Solution (code) -> Discussion -> Pointers to other relevant recipes or material.
No matter how proficient you're at coding in Python you'll certainly found some useful tips, new approaches or coding techniques. Usually technical books have strong and weak parts which I point out in my reviews, this one is different. As someone before me stated, this book is all meat and no fat. What else do you want from your diet?

Superb collection of useful snippets

This book is a superbly edited collection of recipes that originally appeared online containing corrections and updates to the programs, much added discussion, many additional recipes, and fourteen extended chapter introductions. Each snippet is first briefly introduced, then completely and clearly discussed at length. The explanations are easy for beginners to understand, without being in the least condescending, while offering a huge feast for more experienced programmers.
This book has garnered rave reviews on comp.lang.python, the internet newsgroup devoted to Python. Some examples:
"The book is uniformly fantastic, congratulations to the authors!"
"I should note that this is not much like a usual Cookbook, which offers quick "do things this way" recipes to follow, almost blindly. Instead it offers deep discussions of various approaches and uses state-of-the-art techniques (e.g., list comprehensions) that may not be at all obvious to newcomers."
"I would recommend something like Learning Python as a first book. But then Python Cookbook is the second book to get, or the first for those who have been with the language a while."

Python Cookbook

This book nicely complements "Learning Python" by giving the reader a wide exposure to how Python can be used to solve common problems. The text is more than a list of recipes. A discussion section follows each code snippet. This is useful since the code is actually explained as opposed to simply being listed. The book is well laid out and has a decent amount of white space in the margins for notes. A more exhaustive index would have made finding a particular example easier, although having said that, the Table of Contents is well laid out. I highly recommend "Python Cookbook" not only as a book to show how specific problems can be solved using Python, but as showing alternative approach.

About the Author
The late Azriel Rosenfeld was a tenured research professor, a distinguished university professor, and the Founding Director of the Center for Automation Research at the University of Maryland in College Park, where he also held affiliate professorships in the departments of computer science, electrical engineering, and psychology. Dr. Rosenfeld was widely regarded as the leading researcher in the world in the field of computer image analysis. Over a period of nearly 40 years, he made fundamental and pioneering contributions to nearly every area of that field. He wrote the first textbook in the field, was founding editor of its first journal, and was co-chairman of its first international conference. He published over 30 books and over 600 book chapters and journal articles, and directed nearly 60 Ph.D. dissertations. Dr. Rosenfeld's research on digital image analysis—specifically on digital geometry and topology and the accurate measurement of statistical features of digital images in the 1960s and 1970s—formed the foundation for a generation of industrial vision inspection systems that have found widespread applications from the automotive to the electronics industry. He was a Fellow of the IEEE and the Washington Academy of Sciences; a Founding Fellow of the AAAI, the ACM, and the IAPR. Among his numerous awards and honors are the IEEE's Emanuel Piore Award, its Third Millennium Medal, and its Distinguished Service Award for Lifetime Achievement in Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition.

This is a historic book which helped define the field of image processing. It has clarity and it presents the basic issues in a superb manner. Although it is somewhat dated now, it will still be useful to those who wish to look at the historical development of the field.

If you understand this work, you can crush Class players in IQP positions

The quality of Baburin's work is off the charts. This book opened my eyes to the Isolated Queen's Pawn structure, which I try to get in as many games as I possibly can because this book showed me how to demolish people with it (at my level, Class "A," and even somewhat above my level).

One could call this a "specialized" middlegame text, but because the presence of the IQP is so ubiquitous in chess, this is just an extremely important work, and one that I feel doesn't get as much attention as it deserves.

The whole book is fantastic, but Part 1 (basically, Attacking with the IQP) is absolutely exceptional. THIS BOOK IS NOT FOR BEGINNERS, and you MUST know "basic" kingside attacking motifs to get optimal value out of it. But tournament players who go through it will have their eyes opened for sure. This book trains you to play IQP positions with calculation and general principles together! Baburin shows you the plans (even multiple plans in the same opening system) and when faced with such positions you will know almost exactly what to do.

Great book on positional chess

Covers the isolated pawn formation that occurs in several openings such as the caro kan panov, the tarrasch defense to the queens gambit, the nimzo indian defense and the french tarrasch. Covers pros and cons of Isolated Pawns. The major themes related to the isolated pawn, look inside the book to find out the themes. Great bit of analysis. The author goes the extra mile to make the rank amateur understand the concepts. The book is in 3 parts. The first part covering the isolated pawn formations and attacking patterns. Second part covering various endgames that occur from the isolated pawn formation. and the third being covering other pawn formations that the isolated pawn formation can change into. All chapters are good. I really liked the first part where he discusses the various positional strategies for the owner of the isolated pawn and the attacking themes involved followed by serveral illustrated games with good analysis. Also liked the part about how to combat the isolated pawn.
I would recommend this book to anyone who plays the queens gambit, nimzo indian defense, caro kan panov attack, english or french tarrasch, as the isolated pawn formation occurs in these openings. Great book teaching positional strategies. Can't wait for more good books from the same author.
