About the Author
Robert E. Quinn is the Margaret Elliott Tracy Collegiate Professor in Business Administration & Professor of Management and Organizations at the University of Michigan. He has published many papers and books on management and organization, but Professor Quinn is particularly interested in issues concerning leadership, vision and change. He has an applied orientation and has 25 years of experience in working with executives on issues of organizational change. He has been involved in the design and execution of numerous large-scale change projects. He has worked with a large percentage of the Fortune 500 companies. He teaches in both the MBA and Executive Education Programs at the University of Michigan and is known for innovative instructional efforts. Professor Quinn is also a fellow of the World Business Academy.

Very corporate

I have to give kudos to the authors for being able to lay out any corporate concept in a straight-forward, easy to understand manner. The book also makes a point of including several 'exercises' which allow the reader to figure out how each concept could be applied in an actual real-life scenario. A lot of books tend to lack the practical application of their theories, which doesn't exactly lend credence; so, it was nice to see that the authors took the effort to show their theories in action. This is especially helpful because I have known several managers who learn of a managerial practice, but then put it into effect in a manner that is unproductive, if not outright hostile.

On that note, most of the material covered here struck me as information that I already knew, but laid out so as to show what a manager should be doing (listen to others, state a goal etc. etc.) Unfortunately, again, I have known managers who didn't meet most of the criteria for the 'managerial roles' laid out in this book and would actually benefit from reading these standards.

If it weren't for the absurdly high price tag (a sign that this is a college textbook), I actually would recommend any suffering employee to buy the book and discretely slip it in the in-bin of his/her business's horrible manager.

This book is not the best book on competing values, but it serves its purpose. I would look elsewhere for a competing values approach book before settling on this one.

Great art, but short book

I've been collecting Frank Cho's art since the old Liberty Meadows days, and he has only gotten better with time. This book includes some fabulous work, including both early sketches and final pieces. Some of it is cover work, some is revisiting our favorite Brandy, and he also includes some semi-nudes of other work.

My only complaint is that the book is too short. In total, there are are less that 40 finished pieces. I don't know if the publisher was just trying to keep the page count down or if Mr. Cho has simply not been as prolific as I wish he was.

But hands down, Frank Cho draws the most fantastic women of his generation of artists. I haven't seen more stunning female art since the early days of Boris Vallejo. I just want MORE!

Fantastic Studies of the Female Form

Frank Cho: Women- Selected Drawings Book Two gathers some of Frank Cho's finest drawings; some high lighting the models upon which he based the drawings, featuring details about the models, followed by renderings in black and white followed by what represents an attempt to show how the transition is made into color, as well as sketches made in pencil and those rendered in ink, by someone considered to be a rising star in graphic illustrations and constitutes a fine study of the female figure by an award winning artist; the finest black and white drawing with great detail which constitutes an excellent study in lighting, high lights and shadows being Seduction and the finest in ink being 50 Girls 50.

Highly recommended.

About the Author
Manly P. Hall was the founder of the Philosophical Research Society. In over seventy-five years of dynamic public activity, he delivered more than 8,000 lectures in the United States and abroad, and authored countless books, essays, and articles. In his lectures and writings, Manly Hall always emphasized the practical aspects of philosophy and religion as they applied to daily living. He restated for modern man those spiritual and ethical doctrines which have given humanity its noblest ideals and most adequate codes of conduct. Believing that philosophy is a working tool to help the individual in building a solid foundation for his dreams and purposes, Manly Hall steadfastly sought recognition of the belief that world civilization can be perfected only when human beings meet on a common ground of intelligence, cooperation, and worthy purpose.
