Better crochet books are available

I have to agree with the other reviewers, this isn't a book for beginners and possibly not even for experience crocheters. To start with, the author explains how to do various crochet stitches. For a chain stitch she says, "To make a chain stitch, you need to bring the yarn over the hook from the back to the front. Then you will draw it through the two loops on the hook to make a single loop." Hmmmm....where did the two loops on the hook come from? She failed to explain that you need to start the chain with a slip knot. Also as an experience crocheter, I can tell you that you draw the yarn through "one" loop on the hook not "two" loops for a chain stitch. For a double crochet stitch she says, "The first step is to make a chain 14 and a slip knot." I hope she meant that you make a slip knot and then chain 14 stitches because I'm not sure what you'd get if you end the row with a slip knot. Her terminology is not what I'm accustom to seeing either. She says to "raise the yarn with a turning chain and turn the work counterclockwise." Normal crochet instructions would say "chain one and turn."
I haven't tried any of the scarf patterns but they might be doable if you can translate her odd directions in some of the patterns. The second pattern, a spiral net boa-ruffle scarf, starts with these directions: 1) Before you start, inspect your yarn. The top portion is net, regardless of the size, and there may be a decorative border at the bottom. You will use the top holes for this pattern. (I'm guessing she jumped from talking about the yarn to describing the scarf and I "think" she meant the top "loops" of the crochet stitches, as opposed to the entire stitch, not the top "holes.") She goes on to step two.. 2) "First, tie the knot and overhand at the beginning then insert your hook on the top loop that is closest to the knot. Create a chain by skipping one loop and picking up the next. Repeat this for five times until you make six chains." (I'm guessing she meant you should tie an overhand knot and pull the yarn through one of the loops in the knot. "Normal" instructions would say "Make a slip knot and chain 6." Also, you create chain stitches by pulling the yarn through each previous loop not by skipping loops. Since the "chain" is the row that starts the project, there aren't any loops to skip until you chain them so I'm really not sure what loops she's skipping and picking up.) Pattern 3, skinny scarf, starts with "Make a slip knot and start a foundation chain." This one looks like a normal crochet pattern. It's almost like two different people wrote this book.
As other reviewers have said, there isn't a single picture in the book. It's very difficult to tell by a "name" and set of instructions what a crochet pattern will look like when it's finished. I'm not willing to waste my time and yarn without having some idea what the finished project will look like. I'm glad this book was free. Needless to say, I'll be deleting it from my Kindle.

Huge Disappointment........

Without pictures these directions at least for me where impossible to follow.. I'm completely clueless on what they are supposed to look like!! Her other book though was short and sweet at least had a picture of what the finished items looked like!! So needless to say this book is a waste of time even if you get it for free!! Perhaps an experienced crochet would be able to unravel this..Beginners avoid period!
