This is a comprehensive 5 Volume reference designed to be a handbook for biophysicists, biochemists, and structural biologists with an interest in the current literature and state of the art technology. It will be a good reference for many years to come. It adopts an A-Z format and is very detailed in its scholarship and coverage. It can be used equally by students in training and academicians at the senior level.
I have read large sections of the manuscripts and looked at many chapters in great detail. There is good coverage of infrared spectroscopy, NMR, nanostructures and nanotechnology, as well as electron microscopy, diodes, lasers, and many other subjects. The book goes into great depth on some of the popular techniques such as functional MRI. There are many colored diagrams, formulae, charts, and structural data which are plentiful in helping to augment and illustrate the text well. There is a large coverage of Optics and its techniques. Magnetism, electricity, and electronics is covered. The organization and readability of the text is excellent and can be used without difficulty. In summary, the Encyclopedia of Biophysics by Gordon et al. is an outstanding text and reference for all those with interests in the subject.
